This procedure displays and edits the properties of a Microsoft Office document stored in KnowledgeTree, from within Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint).
Pre-requisites:
| • | Appropriate permissions on the relevant KnowledgeTree folder (the folder where the document is stored). |
| • | The document must exist in KnowledgeTree. |
| • | You must have at least 'read' permissions on the folder to view the document. |
| • | You must have at least 'write' permissions on the document to edit it, and the document must be available within KnowledgeTree for editing - i.e. you cannot edit a document that another user has locked for editing. |
Perform the following steps:
| 1. | On your Windows computer, open the relevant Microsoft Office application - Word, Excel, or PowerPoint; then, log on to KnowledgeTree through the KnowledgeTree Office Add-in, if you are not already logged on. |
| 2. | Locate the document in KnowledgeTree - search, or browse KnowledgeTree; then, select the document in the folder tree. |
Note: You will only see those files that are of a file type relevant to the application you're
working in, e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, or Word.
Alternative step: Double clicking on a document selected in the tree opens
the document for viewing. If the document is currently checked out by you,
double clicking on the file in the folder tree opens it for editing.

| • | view the document properties? Click View a Copy. The document opens in the adjacent Microsoft Office interface. The document properties (document title, tags, and the document type and associated values) display in 'View' mode. |

| • | edit the document properties? Click Edit. The document is locked for editing in KnowledgeTree. In the Comment box that displays, provide a description of your changes. The document opens in the adjacent Microsoft Office interface, and the document Properties Editing screen displays in the KnowledgeTree Office Add-in panel. Click on a field in the Document Properties Editing screen to change the value in the field; then, click Save Properties to save your changes. |
Note: You can also make changes to the document content, if required.
