This procedure starts the KnowledgeTree Drop Box, modifies Drop Box settings, and uploads documents and folders from your desktop into KnowledgeTree through the KnowledgeTree Drop Box.
Pre-requisites:
| • | KnowledgeTree server (Commercial or Community Edition, on-premise, from version 3.5.3), or a subscription to the KnowledgeTreeLive service |
| • | KnowledgeTree Drop Box installed on the client machine |
| • | Dropped Documents user workspace added to KnowledgeTree |
Note: The user's personal Dropped Documents workspace is created when the user first logs in to KnowledgeTree.
Perform the following steps:
| 1. | To open KnowledgeTree Drop Box, click the KnowledgeTree Drop Box menu item through the Windows Start menu, e.g. Start - All Programs - KnowledgeTree - KnowledgeTree Drop Box. The Drop Box widget opens on the desktop. |

| • | close the KnowledgeTree Drop Box? Right click on the KnowledgeTree Drop Box; then, select Exit; or, right-click on the KnowledgeTree Drop Box icon in the system tray to display the management menu; then, select Exit. |
| • | minimize the KnowledgeTree Drop Box to the system tray? Do one of the following: right click on the KnowledgeTree Drop Box; then, select Minimize; or, right-click on the Drop Box icon in the system tray to display the management menu; then, select Minimize; or, double click on the Drop Box widget to minimize it. |
| • | configure Drop Box settings? Go to step 3. |
| • | upload files and folders? Go to step 4. |
| 3. | Configuring KnowledgeTree Drop Box Settings: |
| 3.1. | Right click on the application icon in the system tray to display the KnowledgeTree Drop Box menu. |

| • | view or change the KnowledgeTree URL, your username or password? Click KnowledgeTree Login Details to open the dialog. |
Important: When using an http connection on KnowledgeTree on-premise, add the port number
to the server URL, e.g. http://192.186.1.1:8080. When using an SSL connection, port is not
required in the server URL, e.g. https://192.186.1.1

| • | configure KnowledgeTree Drop Box to load when starting your machine? Click Run on System Startup. |
| • | configure the Drop Box widget to display continuously on your Desktop? Click Always On Top. |
| • | resize the KnowledgeTree Drop Box widget? Click Size; then, select Large or Small. |
| • | minimize/maximize the KnowledgeTree Drop Box widget? Click Minimize/Maximize. |
Alternative step: Double click on the KnowledgeTree Drop Box icon in the system tray to
automatically maximize the widget, if it is currently minimized. Or, double click on the
maximized widget to automatically minimize it.

| • | close the application? Click Exit. |
| 4. | Uploading files and Folders: |
| 4.1. | Navigate to the location of the files/folders on your local machine. |
| 4.2. | Ensure that your connection to KnowledgeTree is established. |
| 4.3. | Ensure that your username, password, and the KnowledgeTree URL are correct. |
| 4.4. | Select files and folders to upload; then, drag these files and folders across the desktop onto the KnowledgeTree Drop Box widget. |
| 4.5. | View upload progress on the KnowledgeTree Drop Box progress bar. |
| 4.6. | Documents and folders are uploaded to your Dropped Documents workspace in KnowledgeTree, and the document metadata is automatically populated in the document's Document Details page. |

What happens if I need to cancel the upload while upload is in progress?
To cancel document upload before the upload is complete, click the Cancel button (X icon on the dashlet). Successfully uploaded documents are added to KnowledgeTree.
