Getting Started > Setting up KnowledgeTree DWI Service Metadata

This topic provides information around configuring the document types, fieldsets, and fields to use with KnowledgeTree DWI Service.

Before the first use of KnowledgeTree DWI Service in the organization, the administrative user logs in to KnowledgeTree's Web interface to create the document types, fieldsets, and fields that will be used for documents that are uploaded via KnowledgeTree DWI Service.

Note: Configuring metadata prior to using KnowledgeTree DWI Service for uploads is an optional, although recommended, task - you can upload with unknown metadata.

KnowledgeTree uses document types, fieldsets, and fields to gather the metadata used to categorize documents in the repository, in order to provide an efficient search function for the document management system.

Note: For search purposes, documents in the repository are grouped by document type - e.g. 'Invoice', or 'Proposal'. Each document type is associated with one or more fieldsets, and each fieldset contains one or more fields. Fieldsets allow the grouping of logical units of information - i.e. the information entered into fields. For example, you can create a fieldset called 'Customer Details', and add the following fields: 'name', 'address', 'telephone number', 'account number', etc.

Strict compliance with KnowledgeTree DWI Service XML Schema

The syntax (spelling, capitalization) of KnowledgeTree DWI-specific document types, fieldsets, and fields that you configure in the repository must be exactly the same as the syntax of these elements in the XML file.

Metadata naming conventions

There are currently no fixed rules for naming the KnowledgeTree DWI Service-specific document type, fieldsets and fields that must be created in DMS Administration for use with KnowledgeTree DWI Service.

We recommend that the name of document types, fieldsets and fields are prefixed with 'DWI' - for example: 'DWI Document Type', 'DWI Invoice details' (fieldset), 'DWI Customer name' (field). This ensures that the metadata set up specifically for KnowledgeTree DWI Service is recognizable as such in the Metadata Configuration section in DMS Administration.

Warning: Do not disable KnowledgeTree's 'default' document type.
