Introduction to KnowledgeTree Document Management Made Simple > Units, Groups, Users, and Roles > Why use Units? Units, as they're used in KnowledgeTree, do not exist in in LDAP or in Active Directory - i.e. you can't import predefined Units from an external source.
Units are used where content in the repository must be separated into two or more distinct entities - e.g. two or more departments, or two or more offices in different cities or countries, and so on.
Each Unit has a designated Unit administrator, who only has administrative rights in their Unit folder. The KnowledgeTree system administrator retains administrative rights on all Unit folders. User groups are assigned permissions on the Unit folder.
The division of the repository into separate Unit folders depends on the organization structure and system administrative requirements.
