Introduction to KnowledgeTree Document Management Made Simple > Units, Groups, Users, and Roles > Allocating Permissions to Groups and Roles By default, KnowledgeTree ships with an inbuilt Permissions set, and allows the configuration of additional, customized permissions. Custom permissions are useful where additional Plugins are developed for the organization, and unique permissions are required for the additional functionality.
KnowledgeTree provides the following mechanisms for assigning permissions:
Permissions are typically applied at the folder level - i.e. a group or a role is assigned a permission on a specific folder.
Permissions are assigned through the Workflow tool, and conditional permissions (dynamic conditions), when you have to bypass the default permissions structure in order to assign permissions on a specific document. Note however that if your permissions structure requires the wide allocation of permissions on a per user, or per document level, your permissions structure may be too complicated, and may be hard to manage. It is difficult to properly audit and monitor a system where you have different permissions on every document.
On each document's Document Details page, the system displays the permissions assignment - i.e. how permissions are assigned, and whether through group, role, workflow, or dynamic conditions.
